Gardens In some places around the world, children do go to school and get well educated; but some children are not so lucky. In some places around the world it is only the richer children that have the opportunity to be educated.
We looked at other countries such as Colombia to get their input on global issues and ask them about their education compared to ours - we used the email. This is what some children thought - “the thing that I don’t like here in Columbia is that there are too many people without a home and are sleeping on the streets, that makes me feel sad, many of us go to school without any breakfast or anything else all day”, that was from Melissa aged eleven from Colombia. “I think it is unfair that some people have a lot of money whilst there are so many people living on the street without a home. I believe that everyone must have the same living conditions. Another thing I dislike is pollution. It is horrible to see dead fish by the rivers and seas because we throw rubbish into the streams. Not many people recycle so we are cutting down on more and more trees. If this continues we will not have enough oxygen. Humans and trees need each other” and that was by Juan aged 11 in Colombia. So as you can see, it becomes it very clear that everybody needs to be educated if this planet is to survive. We are going to tell you some facts about world education: 125 million children around the world do not go to school - fact ![]() 2 thirds of them are girls, 83 million - fact It is estimated that another 180 million children will have to give up school before they are ready - fact In Zambia and many other schools around the world, the classes are over crowded with 70 -90 children in each class - remembering there is only one teacher to go round - fact Some children will treat our books, pencils and rulers like treasures, whilst we take most of this for granted - fact In many other countries around the world, such as Zambia, children do not have clean or enough water to drink or wash. So we asked ourselves, what can we do to help the situation. We came up with the following: we could raise money for poor countries, just £1 a month could help children to get a better education and better education will lead to a better life. ![]() there could be more marathons, challenges, competitions, etc supported by the government and held by local schools in richer countries. Apart from raising money to help schools in less developed countries, it would be helpful to find ways in which our forms of education helps others. Remember if you give a man a fish, he will eat for one day, but if you teach a man to catch a fish he will eat for the rest of his life. So we have to, this is easier said than done, we need to change our ways of life and we have to care for other children not just ourselves. Problem: Too much litter Solution: There could be recycling bins divided it three sections, glass, cardboard and cans. Problem: Traffic causes pollution Solution: we could help by providing more cycle paths but they need to be promoted so that everybody knows about them. We could also try to improve public transport, make it a little more efficient then more people may want to use public transport than there everyday car or other vehicle. This is easier said than done, we need to change our ways of life to improve our environment, we need to care for other children around the world, not just ourselves. Our generation needs to set a good example before it is too late, we need to start from ourselves, meaning local, to other places in the world, meaning global. This can only be done by education, because we believe education is the foundation for a better life for all. |
